i am obsessed.
i recently enrolled on suzi blu's les petit dolls online class,
and i've been sketching non-stop since!
it's been a welcome change from my previous obsession of blogging,
(well, reading blogs anyway!)
and i feel i've finally made a transition from watching to doing!
one of the most exciting things is:
initially i sucked.
(i'm still not great)
but truly,
at the start i sucked big time.
yet,
despite moments where i did think:
"who am i kidding here?"
i persevered.
page, after page,
i kept trying.
kept going.
until suddenly,
last night ~
penny found her groove ;)
it was so exhilarating to move through that stage.
where previously i would have given up,
where i would have allowed my vanity to stunt my growth;
i finally allowed myself to be bad.
i finally believed it was okay to not be immediately brilliant,
(because lets be honest, how many people are?)
and i let myself play.
experiment.
and didn't judge what i created.
until finally my girl came to me.
this is only the beginning,
and i have a long journey ahead,
but i am excited,
and i feel transformed already.

Hi Penny! I'm glad you found your groove :) Reading this post was like poetry! I have been sketching more since Suzi's class as well, and it's such an awesome thing! Good to see your artwork on your blog♥Merissa.
I love your sketches!! Her eyes are so big and innocent. I LOVE that!!
How Penny Got Her Groove Back: summer blockbuster romance.
What a coy little character you've unleashed. She's delightful.
I know what you mean about pushing through and being willing to not be brilliant right out of the gate. It's a challenge for me to allow myself that awkwardness, but if I don't allow that stage, I also deny myself that rewarding shift into the groove.
Thanks Penny.
h nice work! And very, very groovy. x
Fantastic! :)
love how your girl came to you..teehee..and sooo happy that you are busy with something that makes you dance with joy! xx
I love it! I love that you didn't give up, that you kept going and succeeded! That truly says a lot about who you are. How inspiring, thanks for sharing that, because it really inspires me. I don't know what class this is, but I love your creations, they are just adorable!
Best wishes, and congrats on your new groove :)
Penny found her groove! Groovy.
Congrats on helping that new little girlie get born...and for birthing a new part of yourself as well!
Isn't it great when you "tip" from "watching to doing?" I love that experience! In our house we call this phenomenon "Wait. Wait. Wait. GO!" I'm was hoping to do this with taking pictures and have been checking my email obsessively hoping to jump in on Susannah Conway's class. But I was out of internet range for one day and missed my opportunity yet again! (I have to admit, there was some crying.)
I'm going to show my daughters your drawings. I think they will love them, and perhpas it will inspire them to draw something other than Bratz type fashion figures.
I'm proud of you!
Rachelle (Magpie Girl)
I love her, she is too cute!!

Love those BIG eyes :-)
It's lovely to see you 'art running' with such delight! I can almost hear you skipping!
Your girls are beautiful and your post just what I needed to refresh and remind me =D
Love your sketches. It's awesome to see that you are getting into it [groove]. Is it just me, or is there a little tiny bit resemblance between you and the sketches? Particularly, the two on the right. Really cute sketches. Can't wait to see more. :)
Pen,
Wow, you are blessed with talent of all kinds! Sometimes practicing over and over again releases what is locked inside.
Your girls are lovely. Enjoy the process.
